Notes and Editorial Reviews

Fiorentino’s Rachmaninov Preludes were recorded in 1963 for Concert Artist Recordings and issued on that label and a variety of others from the same stable through the 1960’s. As these were poorly promoted budget labels few at the time became aware of what a great talent Fiorentino was and it is only with hindsight that we realise what a tragedy it was that he did not receive the acclaim due during his lifetime. His playing is characterised by an effortless and aristocratic virtuosity, wonderful pianistic colour and a natural singing line. What is all the more remarkable is that it appears all the Preludes were recorded in a single day along with pieces by other composers! This is one of the earliest complete recordings of Rachmaninov’s Read more Preludes and still one of the best.
