Notes and Editorial Reviews

With the death of Hermann Prey, the mantle of much of his repertoire has fallen on Thomas Hampson's shoulders. Although not known as an operetta singer, Hampson is a master of practically every genre he has undertaken, and this music is no exception. These are exceptionally smooth performances. The artist is really superb in Stolz's Ich sing'mein Lied and Johann Strauss ll's Treu sein, das liegt mir nicht, to name just a couple. Several selections originally created by tenors demonstrate that, had Hampson decided to become a tenor, he would have been one of the best around: Dein ist mein games Herz is a performance that would have made Tauber proud. The recorded sound is spacious, the conducting by Franz Welser-Möst satisfactory. Read more />
