Notes and Editorial Reviews

The eldest of Bach's many sons, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (1710-84) cultivated a highly sensitive and refined musical language, as well as a bold and inventive style far ahead of his time. This disc includes three world premieres of sinfonias from Wilhelm Friedemann's cantatas, reconstructed and arranged by conductor Hartmut Haenchen after meticulous research into the original manuscripts whereabouts and condition. “…(these) performances are marked by vitality and intensity” (American Record Guide).  Delightful August 8, 2014 By Henry S. (Springfield, VA) See All My Reviews "Wilhelm Friedemann Bach might be the least known of Johann Sebastian Bach's prolific composing family, but this superb Brilliant Classics recording demonstrates WF's astonishing abilities with the composing pen. Simply put, this is Baroque orchestral music of the highest quality- nimbleness, rapid tempos, brilliant orchestration, and solid thematic development. The CPE Bach Chamber Orchestra plays the 6 sinfonias and one orchestral suite contained here with polish and elegance. Even if you are not particularly drawn to Baroque music, I find it hard to believe you won't really like WFB's contributions. In my view, he thoroughly upholds the awesome reputation and timeless quality of the entire Bach family. Strongly recommended." Report Abuse
