Very Fine Late Romantic Piano Concertos March 3, 2013 By Henry S. (Springfield, VA) See All My Reviews "Carl Reinecke is yet another example of a relatively unknown late Romantic era German composer whose works tend to be obscured by the emergence of his contemporary, the musical giant Johannes Brahms, and also by the Romantic traditions established earlier by Schumann and Mendelssohn, nuances of whom can be detected in these four excellent piano concertos. These works are well worth exploring, and on this 2-disk CPO set, they receive a high quality reading by Klaus Hellwig, solidly supported by the Northwest German Philharmonie. There are no major compositional innovations here, just solid, very enjoyable music, presented in CPO's impeccable sonic qualities. Most definitely recommended." Report Abuse
