The acoustic limitations of the fortepiano make recording these concertos on period instruments highly problematic. Nonetheless, several attempts have been made, the most successful of which – not only from the standpoint of balance but on musical grounds as well – is the set from Steven Lubin and Christopher Hogwood. In an attempt to get as close as possible to the right sound for each concerto, Lubin uses four different instruments, all modern reproductions of Viennese originals dating from the years 1795-1824. Lubin’s playing is informed and expressive, brighter in tone and more solid than Melvyn Tan’s on EMI; with

Great performance and a good bargain April 3, 2012 By Richard H. (Glendale, AZ) See All My Reviews "This is a rerelease of the the concertos which I own the original on Loiseau-Lyre. Lubin is great on piano forte as is Hogwood and the AAM. Unfortunately I don't have the sonatas included in my release so I can't comment. I have written a letter to Decca requesting the missing works but have not heard back from them as yet.
