Good perfomrances, faulty disk February 27, 2015 By Gail M. (Goleta, CA) See All My Reviews "This disk contains very good performances, in excellent sound. Drahos and the Esterhazy musicians play these works with sensible tempos, very transparent orchestral textures, great precision, and lots of enthusiasm. The storm movement in Symphony 6 perhaps is a little less heavy and dramatic than in some other performances, but I found both symphomies to be more enjoyable to hear than many other versions. But I found one potentially serious problem with the disk I received; it would not play on either of the high quality Sony CD players I ordinarily use in my listening area. After experimenting I was amazed to find that it would play perfectly on either of two very old, very inexpensive CD players. At this time I don't know what is wrong with this disk, but the problem may be in other copies of this issue and it may affect other listeners. The same performance of Symphony 6 is available with Symphony 5 on a diferent Naxos disk with no problems, but Symphony 1 is only available with No.6 on this one." Report Abuse
