A Fine RecordingSeptember 7, 2017By Henry S. (Springfield, VA)See All My Reviews"I am in agreement with Jan Venter's short but relevant comments. This is a CD containing both ballet music of a light and effervescent texture and orchestrations of some very serious music composed for piano by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Respighi's orchestral transcriptions of pieces written by Rossini for the express purpose of a new Russian ballet in the early 20th century should be quite recognizable to serious classical music lovers, while the Rachmaninoff transcriptions will probably be less so. The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra sounds just great under the capable direction of Jesus Lopez-Cobos, and of course Telarc's sonic qualities contained on this disk uphold its tradition of excellence. What a pity that this recording company no longer exists! In short, I really enjoyed this recording, and I have little doubt that you will as well. Recommended all the way."Report Abuse
