Otto Klemperer developed his reputation as a conductor par excellence thanks to his ability to balance the order and chaos of some truly ferocious music. By his 29th birthday, Klemperer had already conducted all of Richard Wagner's operas. His motivation to reinvent Wagner flew in the face of the scholarly traditionalism which dominated music in the early 1900s, but it transformed the way we look at the composer today.
