Notes and Editorial Reviews

Before his swift rise to the top of the operatic world (debut in 1946, first appearance at La Scala in 1947, less than a year later at the Met) Giuseppe Di Stefano went through two important phases as a young man: at first he sang in cafes and cinemas under the pseudonym of "Nino Florio" in wartime Milano, then, as a refugee in Switzerland, he became popular under his own name with many concerts. Radio Lausanne broadcast some of them and also made studio recordings; it is from this source that the present collection is drawn, all published here for the first time. This disc contains mainly lighter material which has been preserved for posterity.
