String Quartet Ambiance March 30, 2012
By ROBERT HANSEN (Denton, TX) See All My Reviews
"I'm hardly an authority on the subject of classical music, so don't look here for deep insight. But Philip Glass is someone you should get to know, if you haven't already discovered him. I love string quartet, and he provides a sound on this recording unlike Mozart but something quite pleasant to the modern ear. Ambient, I think you'd call it, but using the traditional qrartet instruments. And the players are indeed marvelous. Play it when you want a nice sound in the room but don't feel like listening too hard. Visitors will say during the last movement of #5, That's neat! (Another reason for liking Glass: he was born the same year I was, 1937. Must therefore be a good man, right?)"
