A spectacular work November 12, 2014 By Steven Freedman (Raleigh, NC) See All My Reviews "I originally bought the CD of this opera and could not make sense of it. I put it away but when this DVD appeared I tried it again. I was blown away. At first it is quite peculiar and again I could not figure out what was going on but I fortunately persisted and became totally mesmerized with the music and the production. It really bears watching more than once because it is so full of nuanced music. The story is bizarre, haunting, entrancing, horrifying, and compelling as are many tales told hundreds of years ago. I cannot recommend this piece highly enough. The real music critics have been falling all over each other about this work and I can see why after watching this DVD. The singing and acting in this production are fantastic. Do not miss this one." Report Abuse
