Notes and Editorial Reviews

Original London Cast recording with Richard Wordsworth, Hy Hazell, Stephanie Voss, Terrence Cooper. First time on CD. With bonus tracks sung by composer Lionel Bart. Adapted by Bernard Miles from Henry Fielding’s 1730 London comedy ‘Rape Upon Rape’, about a corrupt magistrate, his deliciously ribald wife, and two young boisterous lovers, the bawdy tale proved to be ideal material for Lionel Bart’s first West End hit. With music by film composer Laurie Johnson. Original London Cast recording with Richard Wordsworth, Hy Hazell, Stephanie Voss, Terrence Cooper. First time on CD.  Love the show! May 27, 2012 By William K. (Rochester, MN) See All My Reviews "I saw the revival of the show at Her Majesty's Theatre in London, with Bernard Miles as Justice Squeezum and Hy Hazell as Mrs Squeezum. I loved it to pieces and immediatedly bought the vinyl; I currently have the CD.

I've caught the show at a few little theatres, and still enjoy it. 'Tis a pity that political correctness may have done it in for the stage. The original play, "The Coffeehouse Politician, or Rape upon Rape" by Henry Fielding (a worthy JP himself, and author of "Tom Jones"} is available by way of interlibrary loans. "
