Austere takes on cantatas, well done August 3, 2013 By R. Fuchs (Burlingame, CA) See All My Reviews "This music, which I'm new to, seems like the choral parts of of Bach's cantatas with continuo accompaniment. I'd guess they were set this way for economic reasons, & I'd rather some trumpets strings & tympani came into play. That said, the music is interesting, well sung, well balanced, clearly recorded. Jacobs as usual brings some drama & musicality. I'll take a page from Amazon & recommend that you read their very useful reviews, then purchase from a less antisocial source. For classical recordings that would be arkivmusic, who have contributed a way of keeping this music alive for future generations." Report Abuse
