Beautifully Played and Elegant -but something's m October 16, 2012 By John Harutunian (West Newton, MA) See All My Reviews "Carl Schuricht was a man and a musician of great integrity. These Haydn performances are stylishly done. But they're not the last word. For Symhony No. 95 top honors go to Ferenc Fricsay, in whose rendition the finale races along in far more exhilarating fashion (not to mention with much cleaner and more articulate string playing). And for No. 100, honors are evenly divided between Colin Davis for full-bodied impact and Sir Neville Marriner for sheer elegance and sharpness of the work's contour. Still, for those who may want the Cello Concerto, this disc will probably prove to be worth acquiring." Report Abuse
