Notes and Editorial Reviews

Yuja Wang is widely recognized as one of the most important artists of her generation. Regularly lauded for her controlled, prodigious technique, Yuja has been praised for her authority over the most complex technical demands of the repertoire, the depth of her musical insight, as well as her fresh interpretations and charismatic stage presence. Wang has proven to be an exhilarating and sympathetic interpreter of Rachmaninov and Prokofiev, which makes this disc of concertos by both a reason to celebrate.

Rach 3 April 23, 2019 By Ronald Y. (Morris Plains, NJ) See All My Reviews "Well, I strongly disagree with the earlier reviewers, and I give this three stars only because of the Prokofiev. While there is fire in the performance by Ms. Wang, the piano is often overshadowed by the orchestra, such that much of Rachmaninov's music is obscured, and we miss its beauty and creativity. Listen, instead, to Boris Giltburg's playing and its clear recording." Report Abuse
what beauty and energy! November 12, 2014 By Roger K Graham (Moorestown, NJ) See All My Reviews "I had never heard of Yuja Wang on her appearnce with the Philadelphia Orchestra in the Prokofieff #3 and I was blown away! The enkergy and charm of that performanc are captured here, plus heraffinity for the Rach #3; it contrasts well with the late-30s recording I have with Rachmaninoff himself. I have played this severl times and my joy is undimmed." Report Abuse
Virtuoso performances November 9, 2013 By Bruce B. (Bradenton , FL) See All My Reviews "This album demonstrates Yuja Wang's virtuosity and her romantic piano sensitivity. The third movement of the Rachmaninoff is taken at a breath taking speed. The live recording aspect gives the piano and the orchestra a sense of presence that is delightful as you listen. For me, the more outstanding performance is the Profofiev. Wang's performance is one of the best I have heard, and to my ear interpretively this performance is better than previous recordings by Ashkenazy and Feltsman." Report Abuse
