Interesting but not definitive January 24, 2014 By Howard Haimes (Arlington, VA) See All My Reviews "Once you have listened to some of the masters of the Goldberg Variations, i.e, Glenn Gould in both versions, Murray Perahia, Simone Dinnerstein, or the recently released Jeremy Denk you realize that individualized interpretation is not really possible by playing two pianos together. While somewhat novel, the CD did not move me to an interesting interpretation, but rather just nice background listening. Listening to this piece takes many sittings to embrace, bith the patterns, elegance, embellishments and the astonishing genius of both composer and artist. In short, while somewhat interesting it does little to provide a new interpretation or landmark change from the plethora of both authoritative and mundane recordings available. There are many players wo have takken a long time to understand this compendium of arias. Unfortunately, these artists have not taken that time." Report Abuse
