Notes and Editorial Reviews

There has been so much of opera-for-orchestra these past years that it takes a really exemplary transcription and really good playing to make it worthwhile listening seriously to. Mr. Dragon and the gentlemen of Capitol's ensemble have together accomplished a gem of its kind... Especially attractive is ["Largo al factotum"]...Try following it with text and score for a good laugh at Dragon's expert handling... Not for serious opera lovers...but for Mr. Average Music Lover who likes orchestral sound and easy melody, a must addition to the library.

The Orchestra Sings..indeed! March 29, 2014 By George Masson (Levin, New Zealand) See All My Reviews "This is an excellent recording of some lovely orchestral arrangements by Carmen Dragon of music from the operas. One of the better reissue recordings from the early Capitol years, along with 'Fiesta!'. Those strings really get up and sing and the sound of the brass is beautifully caught! Lovely spacious sound deep and wide with the ambience of the venue beautifully caught. Highly recommended! A pity EMI haven't reissued classic albums such as 'L'Italia', 'Gypsy', 'A World of Music' 'Orientale' among others. various tracks have turned up on various compilations, but classic tracks such as 'La Cucaracha' (from A World of Music) and 'Funiculi Funicula' (from 'L'Italia') have never turned up."
