Exquisite playing! February 5, 2015 By James Carleton (Port Hueneme, CA) See All My Reviews "Claudio Arrau was definitely one of the last of the Romantic pianists. His teacher, Martin Krause, had been a pupil of Franz Liszt, and it is no surprise that Arrau remained a major performer of Liszt's music for his entire career. As to his Chopin, it is hard to find fault with his interpretations. He made several recordings of the concerti; under Eliahu Inbal, the LPO could not been a better accompanist to Arrau. I own a three-CD set, from MHS, of the concerti, and everything else in this set but the Polish Airs fantasy and the three solo impromptus. In their place is a selection of nine solo piano pieces, which can be had in other collections here at Arkiv. However they package these recordings, the fact is that there are few who can play them as well, and possibly none better. At the price, there should be no hesitation about adding them to your collection." Report Abuse
