This is the second volume of McEwen's String Quartets on Chandos. All the works on this disc are premiere recordings. McEwen's music is characterized by the folk traditions and landscapes of his native Scotland but infused with colours of French impression. During his lifetime McEwen was principally known as a composer of string quartets and can be considered the foremost British practioner of the genre.
