ArkivMusic & MLSC - Frequently Asked Questions ArkivMusic wishes to extend a warm welcome to customers of Music Library Service Company. As you have probably heard by now, ArkivMusic has acquired MLSC. To help you make the transition to ArkivMusic as smoothly as possible, we have gathered together information that explains some of the key changes taking place. ArkivMusic (pronounced "Archive Music"), a subsidiary of Steinway Musical Instruments, Inc., is the leading online source for classical music recordings. Since the launch of our website, ArkivMusic.com, nearly a decade ago, we have been providing a simple way for classical music lovers to find and buy the recordings they are looking for. We offer over 90,000 in-print CDs and DVDs as well as over 10,000 out-of-print titles reissued by us in our ArkivCD program. We also publish LISTEN: Life with Classical Music, a print magazine focusing on classical music in North America, and we produce new recordings of classical music on our own Steinway & Sons label. With many years of experience in all aspects of the music business, ArkivMusic employees are knowledgeable about a wide range of musical genres. Back to Top 2. Why is ArkivMusic now handling my MLSC orders? Music Library Service Company (MLSC) was acquired by ArkivMusic, LLC as of July 1, 2011. As the first step in the transition process of bringing MLSC into the ArkivMusic fold, ArkivMusic is now providing order fulfillment for all MLSC orders placed since July 1 and a few unfilled orders placed before then. Back to Top 3. Why are my orders arriving in separate shipments instead of in one box? ArkivMusic ships orders directly from our network of affiliated warehouses, with individual shipments based on which warehouse has a particular title in stock. This should lead to delivery times that are appreciably faster than before, putting your new acquisitions into the hands of your users much sooner. Back to Top 4. Can I still order through the MLSC site? Yes, the mlscmusic.com website will continue to be available during the integration period for you to place orders using your existing account, view your prior order history, and access all of the top charts, label lists, and MLSC functions that you are accustomed to. Back to Top 5. Can I order through ArkivMusic.com? If you have an existing purchase order or institutional account with ArkivMusic, you can place orders through ArkivMusic.com now. If you don't have an account with ArkivMusic yet, please contact us at and we will get you and your library set up right away. Back to Top 6. How do I purchase non-classical titles on ArkivMusic? Though ArkivMusic.com does carry some non-classical titles such as Broadway cast albums and movie soundtracks, please continue using the mlscmusic.com website for the bulk of your non-classical purchases for the time being. Back to Top 7. What will happen to my approval plan? ArkivMusic will continue to manage your approval plan. MLSC will work closely with ArkivMusic to make sure your approval plan is transitioned properly. Your June approval titles will ship during the last week of July from the ArkivMusic distribution network and will arrive in multiple shipments. In August, MLSC will send you a copy of your current Approval Plan profile as we transition it to ArkivMusic. During this transition, both your current Approvals manager, Dana Jaunzemis, and your new ArkivMusic contact will be available to clarify any changes in your plan. Back to Top 8. What about my backorders? All of the titles that were on backorder with MLSC have been transferred to ArkivMusic. You will receive the titles that are available and will be invoiced by ArkivMusic. Back to Top 9. Do I have to use a credit card? No. ArkivMusic has always offered institutional invoicing, just like MLSC. The shipping and billing information that you had on file with MLSC has been added to ArkivMusic and you will be invoiced after your titles ship. Back to Top 10. How do I pay my invoices? If you have any invoices from MLSC, you will continue to pay them as you have before, either by mail, credit card, or direct deposit directly to MLSC, Inc. New shipments arriving from ArkivMusic will be invoiced by ArkivMusic with remittance information on the invoice. Back to Top 11. Will I still receive pink cancellation slips in my shipments? No. We will begin to email your cancellation notices. During the transition, you will receive Cancellation Reports from MLSC by email. Going forward, all cancellation information will be supplied by ArkivMusic. Back to Top 12. Will you continue to support OCLC? Yes, during our transition, MLSC will continue to be part of the OCLC WorldCat Cataloging Partners service. If you have an OCLC cataloging subscription and the record exists for the title you order from MLSC, the record will be delivered at no additional charge. For any title that does not have an existing record in OCLC, you will be provided a placeholder record. Back to Top 13. Will ArkivMusic continue to support MLA? Yes!
