On December 9th, ArkivMusic and Steinway & Sons co-hosted a CD signing event with Steinway Artist Leon Fleisher, who autographed his most recent Sony Classical releases, six legendary recordings available for the first time on CD, exclusively through ArkivMusic. As part of Leon Fleisher’s 80th birthday year celebration, the event also included the unveiling of an oil portrait of Mr. Fleisher by Paul Wyse. This is the first time in Steinway’s 155-year history that a painting for the Steinway Art Collection has been done by a Steinway Artist (a professor at the Crane School of Music), let alone a former student of the subject. And it is only the fourth painting to be added to Steinway’s collection in the past three decades.
