When Steven Winteregg composes chamber music, he naturally leans toward the brass. As principal tuba with the Dayton Philharmonic, he is intimately familiar with the brass family's range and dynamism.
While not exclusively horns, Winteregg's arrangements are a distinct change from the usual string chamber ensembles. From the first notes, listeners will remark how different chamber music can be. The opening sextet, 'Pastiche,' is influenced not only by Spanish music, but by the collaborations of Gil Evans and Miles Davis as well, particularly the latter's 'Sketches of Spain.'
