A turning point came in 1990 when she heard Celtic fiddle music. This led her to seek out more Celtic music. When she heard the great piper Hamish Moore she began playing the Scottish small pipes.

She joined the contradance band Spontaneous Combustion and then another named Absence of Mallards, of which she is still a member. She joined the duo Farther Shore, a folk group, where she plays instruments and sings. In these groups and as a freelancer she played various events in the New York area at country dance events, balls, and other occasions where Scottish music was required.

She joined the sextet Ensemble Galilei, a Washington, D.C. area group that plays Celtic and Irish music as well as Baroque and Renaissance compositions. She often works with Martita Goshen's Earth Works Dance Troupe, and has played in theater music.

Nuse is also a member of a Celtic duo named Calanish. In addition to her musical activities, she continues working as a freelance illustrator, portrait painter, and calligrapher. Read less
