Notes and Editorial Reviews

Friedrich Jaecker was born in Soest in 1950. He studied in Detmold and Hamburg under Gyorgy Ligeti and in 1980 was appointed Professor at the Musikhochschule in Cologne. As a composer, he was first a constructivist as can be heard in his Description of a Decline for orchestra or in In Excelsis for three keyboard instruments and three drums, both of which were composed in 1976. After a couple of more detours, the observation of the process of composition has become more and more important to him. Means are used most sparingly in the works he has composed most recently. Sounds or single notes surrounded by intervals are so enriched with connections that less the impression of dissolution arises than that of intensification.
