Notes and Editorial Reviews

Minoru Miki was born in Tokushima, Japan in 1930. He graduated from the Tokyo National University of Music. He founded the Pro Musica Nipponia, the Opera Theater Uta-Za, the Yui Ensemble and the Orchestra Asia. His Requiem was composed in 1963 and is dedicated to the victims of World War II. The words are based on a poem by an unknown poet who lived on an island in the South Pacific Ocean in the 18th century. The Mole's Tale was composed in 1966 and is dedicated to the "victims of modern civilization." The idiom of both these works is quite advanced, but both are well recorded and performed.
