Notes and Editorial Reviews
An adventurer as well as a composer, Fernando Sor led a dramatic life, full of both fortune and misfortune. His music, however, is unwavering in its beauty. His popularity as both a composer and performer is one of the reasons for the proliferation of classical guitar as a genre. Although his performances are lost over time, this collection of duets shows how well his compositions endure.
The music shows the influence of Sor's travels. "Souvenir de Russie" includes themes he came across in his journeys to St. Petersburg. The traditions of Russia and Spain blend remarkably easily. The six Waltzes combine Spanish and French customs in a series of elegant, refined dances.
