The career of Pavel Lisitsian, one of the most marvelous singers ever to hail from Russia, continued for three decades. His aristocratic, mellifluous baritone voice, his perfect vocal poise and great projective force, not only in the lyric, but also dramatic repertoire, created an enormous effect. In his time, Lisitsian was regarded as the outstanding interpreter of the great baritone roles in Tchaikovsky operas such as Eugene Onegin, Pique Dame and Iolanthe.
