Notes and Editorial Reviews

A brand new choral album of a carefully-selected and researched hymns program. In their first complete disc for DG, the incomparable Rundfunkchor Berlin impresses with astonishing clarity and beauty.

Morgenlicht features the famous Morning Has Broken, arranged by John Rutter and sung in German.

Two new choral arrangements have been especially written for this CD: Bewahre uns Gott and Ich lobe meinen Gott.

The Rundfunkchor is accompanied by harpist Maria Todtenhaupt and organist Jörg Strodthoff under the baton of charismatic conductor, Simon Halsey.

Should have been better November 30, 2013 By james oppenheimer (Hyde Park, NY) See All My Reviews "This choir is excellent. The selections, however, were a bit pedestrian. The singing is generally very well done, but many of the selections are simply hymn settings or elementary folksong settings, and it seems often the choir is "phoning in" the performances. Those who know choral excellence know that a simple setting can be made to shimmer and shine with care and attention to dynamics, expression and a real effort to make the entire piece organic. Unfortunately, while the music is sung well, there seems to have been very little thought given to those elements that can make choral music unique. This is probably excellent for background music. The appreciative listener will enjoy it so long as not too much real attention is paid to it. I am very sad to have to write such a review. This work, with the musicians and material, should have been better." Report Abuse
