Great American music! May 14, 2012
By Dr. Stephen Schoeman (Westfield, NJ) See All My Reviews
" "Celebrate America-Songs For The 4th Of July" includes marches by "The March King" John Philip Sousa but there are other march gems by other great American march composers.
And music by one of America's great arrangers and composers Ferde Grofe most well known for his "Grand Canyon Suite".
Having played the clarinet in school and community bands, I can attest to the genius of march composers Karl L. King, Henry Filmore, Frank R. Meacham, and Edwin Franco Goldman
whose most famous marches are included in this CD.
Hearing these marches is like being with old friends. They are from a different time in the
United States, one in which there was a greater sense of innocence and a clearer
optimism. Both these qualities scream out at you in these marches.
This wonderful CD is also wonderful because the music is so patriotic and stirring.
It makes you want to salute the American flag which graces the cover of the CD jacket!
