, a sort of language combining Venetian

dialect with elements of Greek. The poet Antonio Molino wrote all the verses here set to music for four to eight voices by his contemporaries, both famous and obscure (but Guami and Terzi are represented here only by instrumental pieces). Manoli Blessi is credited for track 1, but the track is merely a spoken dedication to the volume printed by Gardano in 1564 and this is simply a pseudonym for the poet (though Molino also happened to be a composer). The ensemble has been heard twice before (31:6), always in something off the beaten path. That is certainly the case here, for I cannot find these pieces anywhere, indicating that everything on this is a recording premiere (not a claim made in the notes). The execution of the five singers and four players is exquisite. There is really nothing to compare this with, but on its own terms the recording is a triumph.
