Notes and Editorial Reviews
Luigi Boccherini (1743-1805) achieved considerable renown as a lyrical melodist with a distinctive voice whose compositions are noted for their expressiveness and intimacy. His major legacy is a fine body of distinctive chamber music. Transcribed from various pre-existing quintets by the composer, these quintets for guitar and strings were created in the 1790s. Full of energy and charisma, they are highly evocative works. Massimo Scattolin’s performances of this rarely-heard repertoire represent an important addition to the Boccherini discography.
