FINALLY!!! March 26, 2013 By PETER J. (SANTA MONICA , CA) See All My Reviews "JIMMY is one of those musicals, like MACK AND MABEL, that always has people scratching their heads and wondering why it wasn't a major hit. I've treasured my LP for decades now, and and I'm thrilled to have it on CD. Just try listening to it ... believe me, it's hard to get some of the songs out of your head, particularly Julie Wilson's 11:00 number "The Charmin' Charmin' Charmin' Son of a Bitch!" My guess is that it doesn't have a bang-up ending like the previous NYC mayor musical, FIORELLO! (There was also another NYC mayor musical years later, titled, appropriately, MAYOR, about Ed Koch.) So ... go for it! If you're a Broadway Musical fan, you won't regret it! And thanks, Arkiv, for making this available. A couple related thoughts: 1) Isn't it about time for someone to put out a restored, original ratio DVD and Blu-Ray of BEAU JAMES? That was the movie take on Mayor Jimmy Walker, starring Bob Hope. 2) Little known fact: Walker's mistress, Betty Compton, lived next to Ruth and Eileen Sherwood, of MY SISTER EILEEN fame, on one- block long Gay Street in Greenwich Village."
