OBVIOUS ATTEMPT TO CREATE ANOTHER "GUYS AND DOLLS" March 20, 2013

"Lovable lug gamblers. Check. Sam Levene. Check. Barbara Nichols in for Vivian Blaine. Check. I was delighted to be able to replace my old Original Cast LP, but I'm afraid this puppy is showing its age. With songs like "Broads Ain't People", and the icky "Hey Jimmy Joe John Jim Jack", I doubt there'll be many revivals of this show. Even the one number I recalled as being a delight ... the 11:00 Would-Be Show Stopper "Just an Honest Mistake" isn't really as witty as I recalled. And up-dating the 1935 THREE MEN ON A HORSE (mistakenly listed as THREE MEN AND A HORSE in the booklet notes)to the 1960s doesn't work.) On the other hand, Lonesome George Gobel, in his only Broadway musical, is quite charming, with a pleasant, engaging voice. This one is pretty much for OC completists. Fortunately, there are still a lot of us around. Thanks for all your work in transferring hard to find LPs to CDs, guys!"
