The composer Wayne Barlow received his M.Mus. and Ph.D degrees in music at the Eastman School in Rochester, New York, and also studied with Schoenberg at the University of Southern California. He took a position at the Eastman School in 1937, where his duties included the directorship of the electronic music studio. He became the organist and choirmaster at St. Thomas in 1945.
