Alexander Borodin’s opera Prince Igor was the source of several musical themes which were adapted for the Broadway musical Kismet, and one melody became the popular song “Stranger in Paradise.” Filmed against the picturesque vistas of the Russian steppes where the opera is set, the story tells of the 12th century Russian prince who courageously fought the invading hordes from the East. This 1969 Kirov Opera, Orchestra and Ballet production was hailed by critics in its original theatrical release, and can now be enjoyed again and again on home video.

 Prince Igor April 3, 2012 By George Skellerup (Chrischurch, New Zealand) See All My Reviews "I first saw this film version of Prince Igor when it first came out during a Film Festival and have often thought I would like to see it again. Now I have so can do that whenever I want. The actors who mime to the singers voices may be better looking than the actual singers but for me it would have been more convincing had the singers filled the rolls, as this way it all looks to easy. However that is not a reason for not enjoying it. I do not know where it was filmed but the scenery makes a wonderful setting for this great opera. I recomend it to everyone who is not familiar with this work." Report Abuse
