Notes and Editorial Reviews

REVIEWS:

"The playing is particularly sensitive: I like the delicately handled dynamics of the Emily Segal's piano in works like the Brahms, which can often be too intrusive. The skillful reading by the Bradburys is superb, and in fact the team work effectively to convey nuances of mood... The complexities of the [Wood] score are ably handled by the Trio, and Adrian's cello handles difficult high notes with skill. Where a held note on the piano is picked up by the clarinet, the crossover cannot be detected, the musicianship and balance is that good." - Raymond Walker, MusicWeb

"Enterprising programming... [The Wood Trio] is boldly set out... fearlessly elucidated. [The Brahms] is a careful,
Read more intimate performance... The players' meticulously thought-through performance of Beethoven's Op. 11 Trio springs to life in the finale's theme and variations." - Hilary Finch, BBC Music Magazine

"This (Brahms) is a performance without anguish, beautifully played and recorded... The performers bring [the Beethoven] off in grand style." - Paul Shoemaker, MusicWeb

"This is a beautifully reflective interpretation [of the Brahms Trio]... Hugh Wood's finely crafted piece is a nicely chosen foil. As for Beethoven's much neglected Clarinet Trio in B flat, Op. 11, it is performed with excellent appreciation of its open structure and graceful lyricism. The recording does justice to an excellent team of artists." - Geoffrey Crankshaw, Musical Opinion

“The playing is exemplary and it is recorded in a warm acoustic. The disc is well presented, with good notes.” - Arthur Baker, Federation of Recorded Music Societies

Engaging Listening from Trio Gemelli June 7, 2017 By Philip L. (Greensboro, NC) See All My Reviews "This is an outstanding issue from several standpoints. Primarily, there is the marvelous atmosphere of a thoughtful recital taking place at just the right distance before the listener. This abets the intriguing effect of setting off each composer from the other, revealing more about their respective musical arguments than a focus on any one of the three might convey. The players are superb, separately and in ensemble, and the warm natural recorded sound sets an ideal ambiance, allowing complete attention to both the music and the interpretations. The order of the pieces makes for a balanced emotional and cerebral journey with this trio of outstanding artists as guides. The length of the program is just right at about an hour, and the program notes are also excellent. Most highly recommended." Report Abuse
