Biography by "Blue" Gene Tyranny
This noted organist, who has appeared throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, and North America, is renowned for his wide-ranging repertoire that includes transcriptions of Paul Dukas' Sorcerer's Apprentice and Camille Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals. Byram-Wigfield was a chorister of King's College in Cambridge, an organ scholar of Christ Church in Oxford, and sub-organist of Winchester Cathedral. For eight years he was master of the music at St. Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh, and became the first person appointed to the newly created post of director of college music at Jesus Collage, Cambridge. In addition to his recital tours, Byram-Wigfield also frequently broadcasts on the British channel Radio Three. He has presented an entire cycle of all of J.S. Bach's organ works and was asked to inaugurate the new organ in St. Barnabas Church in Brooklyn, NY.
