Notes and Editorial Reviews

The present compilation of Romantic music for women's choir demonstrates the possible sound-scapes created by such an ensemble. The thirty women's voices of the ensemble appear in different formations - both a-cappella and with accompaniment. At times it is the organ, at others the harp which soloistically accompany the ensemble; in other cases, harp and organ together accompany the singers, in one setting even the tantalising combination of two horns and a harp. At the heart of the present compilation of works from the High and Late Romantic Eras stand the works by Gustav Holst, in particular his "Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda." Holst's compositions at the centre of the production provide both the hinges and the bridge between Read more the sacred works by Josef Gabriel Rheinberger at the record's beginning and Johannes Brahms's secular pieces that conclude the disc since they themselves incorporate both spheres and can not be ascribed exclusively to one or the other.
