Notes and Editorial Reviews
Houria is an Arab first name that means "freedom". The coloration of this disc naturally shifted towards Africa, not in reference to a specific music or culture, but because the concerts we've given over the past two years suggested to me the idea of a "tribal music reconciling primitive rhythms and contemporary harmonies". So Africa was one of my sources of inspiration, but so was sacred music in which I was steeped from a very early age. Musics at one different and complex which, I hope, here blend with simplicity.
