If the concertos for keyboard instruments are not predominant among Haydnís works, and will never equal his symphonic works or even his quartets, then his works for string instruments appear even less important, as evidenced by the small number he composed. However, it is this genre of compositions which include some of Haydnís most popular concertos today, among them the Concerto in C major for cello and orchestra that was only discovered in 1961.
