Some of the most grand landforms have been slowly carved over millions of years by the majestic Colorado River. Today, however, with the growth of industry and agriculture, the river is overused and incapable to reaching its delta. Five outstanding composers have taken the task of exploring this river in all of its contexts: its prehistoric settlements, the dam-building era, the impact of climate change, and its current ecological predicaments. This recording features Roomful of Teeth, who since their founding in 2009 have consistently explored the potential of the human voice and been nominated and received Grammy awards for their recording projects.
The compositions range from theRead more eclectic, electronic weirdness of William Brittelle's pieces to the rhythmic dance influences in Shara Nova's music, covering many of the complex currents of music being written today. The performers make a compelling case for these works as art, creating moments of beauty, terror and mystery. The effect is greater than the sum of the substantial individual elements, creating a final product strikingly full of optimism and hope.
