Roland Pöntinen is one of Sweden's best-known pianists and is particularly in demand as an accompanist and chamber player.

He studied at the Adolf Fredrik Music School and the Royal Music Academy in Stockholm with Gunnar Hallhagen, then with Menahem Pressler, György Sebok, and Elizabeth Leonskaya at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He has a particular interest in lesser-known repertory, which he has played in concert halls and festivals in many cities in Europe and in North America, Australia, and New Zealand. Pöntinen frequently records on the BIS records label.
