Percy Sherwood was born in Dresden Germany of an English father and German mother and he studied music with Theodor Kirchner, Herman Scholtz and Felix Draeseke among others. Sherwood won the Mendelssohn Prize in composition in 1889 and eventually became a professor at the Dresden Conservatory of Music.
