|
| This internationally popular and very active British conductor made his debut with Japan's Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra in 1992. In 1995, he was appointed principal conductor of the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra. He is currently the assistant conductor of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. He is a frequent guest conductor with all the major British orchestras and with orchestras throughout Europe. Hughes has interpreted a wide range of symphonic literature with special emphasis on British music and choral compositions. He has often led concerts for TV and radio broadcast. Two recordings for the EMI label have earned Hughes gold records and he has participated in several projects, including his recordings of the complete symphonies of Vagn Holmboe with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. In 1986, as artistic director, Hughes initiated the very popular Welsh Proms in Cardiff. |
