Russian-born conductor Oleg Caetani is half-Russian and half-Italian and was educated in both Italy and Russia; he is also fluent in five languages. He was a late protégé of Nadia Boulanger and is most readily associated with opera productions; his opera conducing debut was at the Berlin Staatsoper in 1981, and Caetani worked as assistant to conductor Otmar Suitner for several years.
