Notes and Editorial Reviews

Chamber music meets the jazz world with the Finnish ensemble Nada. Heavily influenced by American blues, they find the common thread in different styles to create a new whole.
'Music for Mani' IV & II smolder with the deep sound of the saxophone. In a tribute to percussionist Karaikudi R. Mani, Nada employ unusual voicing techniques to create a colorful, simple texture. Midway the piece takes on a swinging, blue klezmer style, accompanied, of course, by delicious drumming. It's their ability to metamorphose from style to style so easily that makes Nada such an enjoyable ensemble. Whether they are performing a soporific, melancholy dirge, or a swinging uptown number, the band's great love for the music is palpable.
