Biography

Born: November 20, 1917; Kronach, German   Died: July 17, 1999; Berlin, Germany  
Baumann studied at the Berlin Musikhochschule and later took a position there as lecturer, going on to become the head of the school of music in 1963. His work is influenced by and continues in the vein of Reger and Hindemith. His cantata =Libertas cruciata= (1963) was the first German work for stereo radio. Baumann's compositions are mainly sacred works that are dramatic and austere in character. He wrote many pieces for the organ.
