Four of the composers on this disc, Ladmirault, Ferrari, Jaques-Dalcroze and Ehrenberg set the poetry of Marguerite Burnat-Provins (1872-1952) to music. Burnat-Provins became an established artist and poet. She also worked as an illustrator and novelist. Many composers were inspired by the intense lyricism of her poetry found in her two volumes Chansons rustiques from 1905 and Le livre pour toi from 1907. One of the more interesting composers on this disc is the London-born Elaine Hugh-Jones who has enjoyed a multi-faceted career as a professional pianist accompanist, composer and teacher. She studied composition with Sir Lennox Berkeley and for 37 years was an official accompanist for the BBC. Most of her compositions have been written in Read more the last 25 years.
