Biography by Uncle Dave Lewis
Martin Jones is an elegant and gifted pianist who has recorded a wide swath of literature for the Nimbus label. Jones studied at London's Royal Academy of Music with Guido Agosti, Guy Jonson, and Gordon Green and in 1968 received the Dame Myra Hess Award given by the Musicians' Benevolent Fund in the U.K. Also in 1968 Jones made his debuts at Queen Elizabeth Hall in the South Bank Centre of London and in New York's Carnegie Hall. In 1971 Jones accepted the post of pianist-in-residence at Cardiff University, which he held until 1988. At about that time Jones began his series of recordings for Nimbus.

Since 1988, Jones has recorded the entire piano catalogs of Debussy, Grainger, Szymanowski, Mendelssohn, Stravinsky, Korngold, Brahms, and Mompou in addition to anthologies of works of other composers. With all this recording activity, one would think Jones is never outside the recording studio. But on the contrary, he is exceedingly well traveled, performing mostly in Britain but also in Australia, Canada, and the U.S., where he frequently sits a judge on several world-class piano competitions. Jones is often heard on the BBC, and he may be heard playing the piano solos in the soundtrack of the film Howard's End.
