Mark Wigglesworth

Biography

Country: England  
English conductor Mark Wigglesworth studied at the Royal Academy of Music. Initially gaining attention through his win of the Kondrashin Prize in Holland in 1989, Wigglesworth launched himself on an impressive round of guest conducting and festival appearances that took him around the world, and he made his North American debut in 1992. Wigglesworth has served as music director of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and he maintains strong ties Read more with the New World Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, with whom he is recording a cycle of Shostakovich symphonies for BIS.

Wigglesworth is highly regarded as an opera conductor and has led productions at the Metropolitan in New York, Covent Garden, Glyndebourne, and at the English National Opera.
